Angararg Mahanta known by his stage name Papon is Indian singer, producer, and composer from Assam.  he is the lead singer of the folk-fusion band called Papon . and he also owns his company named as East India company. Papon was born on 24th March 1976  to  Assamese folk singer couple. He was introduced to music in his early childhood.  he spent his most childhood in Assam.

Personal Life

he lives in Mumbai with his wife Shweta Mishra. And they have two children a son named puhor and daughter named parijat. His father who was folk singer died in 2014.

initially, papon took official training in Indian classical music and folk music.  he earnt vocals primarily but also learned tabla, guitar, and harmonium.  his songs are influential from ghazals.  although his first language is assumes, he also sings in Tamil, Marathi, Msihing, and Bengali.

Career :

papon have recorded many hit songs in Bollywood. in 2013  sang his first song for movie Madras Cafe.  later he sang lakkere, the lyrics lakeere were written by the Gulzar.  Papon’s first hit song in the bollyood is Jiyen Que from the dum maro dum movie. while he recorded dong for barfi movie.

apar from this Bollywood performances, papon has also appeared on the MTV coke unplugged. And he have also performed with many international artists on international tour.  He performed at various music festival including paleo music festival in Switzerland, Jakarta international java jazz festival.  And also the mosaic music festival in Singapore.

While in 2007 papon formed an electronic fusion band called papon and the East India company. the six members came from backgrounds varying from assame folk to metal and blues to trip-hop. the band has performed on various famous platforms.
